First Snow

Started by: ena malcup (4151)

This morning car covered with a light dusting of snow.

Nothing serious. Quite used to having to de-ice windscreen in November, but I think the last time I had to clear snow from car in November was back in last Century, and I was living in the Pennines then, where it was sort of expected.

Snow is ok on Christmas cards because unless you live on a main road/bus route you end up stuck because none of the minor roads get cleared of snow or gritted for ice

Tom,

Those shops that sell plastic wares, such as buckets laundry baskets, kitchen bowls, etc are where I have seen cheap snow pushers on sale. OK, they are not as good as a snow shovel for shifting deep snow, but the latter would be a fairly rare requirement for most of us in UK.

TTS, Yes,

did you ever see the film made of Sir Vivian Fuchs' 1958 Trans-Antarctic Expedition, via South Pole, which used them? I think it was this (Not 100% sure) where such machines fell into deep crevasses and were lost.

A really challenging environment.

They did recover it. (Note this is another Cat in a crevasse. it is unit 'A', first pic is unit 'B'.)

Apparently, it took them many hours to shovel all that snow into the crevasse.

(they had to dig them out of crevasses on more than one occasion)

Whilst it had been so cold and snowbound, I have been putting off going to the supermarket: a big shop which entails using car.

Now this is quite manageable, I am not having to do without: got plenty in to cover my needs.

But it does mean that my shopping list for next big shop is growing longer and longer.

Big enough shop to qualify for the free delivery, and Amazon have messaged me to get 15% of my first 'Morrissons on Amazon' shop. (Better to get 15% off a big bill than off a small one)

Should I be tempted?
Should I stick to my desire to, 'see for myself before buying'?

Guess it is all going to depend upon how long inclement weather lasts. (It is NOT so bad that I cannot drive to the supermarket, just choosing not to given the road conditions.)

Nowt stopping me from using this as a foul weather option, and reverting to my prior practice when conditions better.
